March 24, 2014

Welcome back families and students! I hope everyone had a safe and fun March Break :)

To kick things off today we gathered as a class and discussed some of the exciting things everyone did over the break. Many laughs and interesting questions that promoted engaging discussion.

In Langauge Arts we wrote down this week's spelling words, completed a phonics exercise about /wr/, and began a new novel study, "Ask Einstein". The students discussed who wrote the beginning letter and why. They also dug deeper and made some very interesting predictions about the role the cat "Einstein" will have have during the course of the story.

Following LA the students learned a brilliant new subtraction strategy that can be applied in all of their daily exercises. "The Subtraction Poem", was fundamentally demonstrated during a whole class activity! The students then gathered in small groups and applied their newly acquired knowledge on a set of questions.

After lunch, we gathered together and discussed the Water Cycle in Science and performed a hands on activity outlining evaporation and condensation. The students worked colaboratively to completed their assigned in class work.

Finally, the day concluded with printing capital "E" and Library Exchange.

Looking forward to an exciting and educational day tomorrow with the Toronto Marlies!
