Well the excitement is beginning here in Grade Two at The Maples Academy for March Break to arrive!

We had a wonderful day filled with amazing discussions and engaging learning activities. In Language Arts we continued our understanding of contractions in spelling and also focused on the /ar/ sound in grammar. The students were also very enthusiastic about the next chapter they read in their novel study! We discussed their thoughts about what it would be like to meet a martian and would it be interesting or disgusting? We also discussed the Martian's problem and how they would solve it if they were the characters in the story.

The class in the afternoon, worked collectively towards writing a paragraph the tells a story, in their Ontario Writing books. We focused on:

  • "We learned how to write a topic sentence to introduce my story"
  • "We learned the supports the topic sentence and main idea of the story"
  • "We learned how to write a closing sentence that completes my thoughts".

Our math lesson today was fantastic! The student's focused on the learning goal of, "We learned how to add numbers to 100 by using place value and regrouping strategies." This lesson brought out new and creative thought from all students and allowed for insightful discussion.

An excellent day of discovery and learning!
