We bounced into Spring today by updated one of our classroom boards this morning!
As a class we work colaboratively on our Language Arts today beginning with our spelling lesson which focused on contractions. The students were incredibly diligent and full of energy today. The students then worked independently on their novel studies assignments for pages 5-12. The novel, "Ask Einstein" is filled with light humour and keeps the class interested from page to page. During the assigned readings the students and I came together to discuss the inference of "the joke about Einstein" and why his name is kind of a joke, as described in the story. The students provided wonderful and articulate answers.
During Math we are continuing our lessons on: "Subtraction to 100". As a class we have implemented a new strategy, creatively named the "Jack Strat". The strategy is based on the poem:
- "More on top? No need to stop!"
- "More on the floor? Go next door and get ten more!"
- Numbers the same? Zero's the game!"
All students are clearly demonstrating this strategy using math language in their exercises and in class assignments. Well done Grade Two!
After lunch, continued with our writing assignments based on our novel study and the students had a visit to the library with Mrs. Logel.
Finally, the day concluded with Printing "E" and Computers.
